India is always known to be a place filled with corruption. Although corruption exists in almost every country in this world, corruption in India can go to crazy levels. For example, a cop can charge you a bribe for not wearing a helmet when you are driving a four-wheeler and many more. In fact, corruption in India has become more of a joke of itself. But, many times, the consequences of such corruption can be very devastating.
A major example of this is Atul Subhash’s case which has become a major tragedy in India. Atul Subhash was a person who had to commit suicide after being subjected to immense mental torture at the hands of his wife and in-laws. So let us see what this case shows about the flaws of the Indian judiciary and the society as a whole.
Why Did Atul Subhash Die?
Atul Subhash was a software engineer who worked in Bangalore and hailed from Uttar Pradesh. He was a successful engineer who held a very high position in the company where he worked. He got married to a woman named Nikita Singhania in 2019 who also belonged from the same place from where Atul came.
Atul was a very liberal minded person who wanted to keep his wife and her family happy. Although Nikita was initially a housewife, she also had her own dreams to be successful. Atul helped her, in this case, by teaching her how to code and also assisted her in getting a job at Accenture in Bangalore. Soon she also became a successful AI developer as well.
However, things were not very good between Atul and his wife ever since they got married. From the start, Nikita always acted a bit distant from her husband. However, Atul respected her wishes and did not want to come close to her without her consent. But Nikita did not act so respectfully.
In fact, Nikita always argued and shouted with Atul over rather silly issues which could be ignored or solved easily. She and her family members and sometimes even her friends mocked Atul for his physical appearance in front of him and in public. Atul did not protest much regarding such actions.
Seeing his peaceful nature, Nikita and her parents went a step further by constantly pressuring him to give them costly home appliances or buy multiple apartments for them which itself is a costly affair. Atul also faced pressure from his in-laws to give them large amounts of money which sometimes consisted of more than half of his salary.
When Atul refused to give in to such demands, his wife and her parents harassed him almost every day. Not even Atul’s parents were spared from their harassment and Nikita did not allow Atul to take care of them.
Nikita, out of spite often harassed Atul by forcing him to perform indecent sexual acts with her. When Atul refused he was subjected to verbal and sometimes even physical assault from his wife. However, the final blow came when Nikita put a false allegation on him regarding abuse and demanded divorce.
She also ordered Atul to pay her a huge sum of money which would consist of more than a year of his earnings. Atul and his parents were forced to visit the High Court of Jaunpur, UP from Bangalore more than 40 times while Nikita and her family did not have to visit much. Atul was also not allowed by the court to see his son as well.
Atul finally lost all hope when he saw that his lawyer was also not siding with him. Instead, his lawyer constantly supported Nikita’s claims despite seeing that Atul has all evidence against her. This finally forced Atul to realize that there is no other option for him to save himself. So he recorded a video about how he was tortured and then died by hanging himself.
What This Case Shows About Indian Society?
After Atul’s demise, many protestors from all over India demanded justice for him. This led to Nikita and her family getting arrested. However, they got bail very soon. No action has been taken against Atul’s lawyer as of now.
What is shocking is that the Supreme Court is not handing over his son to Atul’s parents by making lame excuses. This is happening despite the lawyers knowing that the child might be abused by her mother due to her unstable nature. This is slowly turning into a case of human rights violation rather than just corruption.
During the protest marches for Atul, very few women were seen among the protestors which mostly consisted of men. In fact, many women are defending Nikita by making hilarious statements like “smashing the patriarchy” for example. All this shows that most people in India are slowly losing their humanity and logical reasoning.
Gone are those days when people used to take bribes or commit crimes to feed themselves. Now people commit crimes just for fun and make foolish excuses to justify themselves. The constant generalization of all men being evil is also something that is becoming harmful to society. In fact, if a person does not have the right to see all women as evil or less qualified then they also do not have the right to view all men or even trans people in a similar manner. But somewhere people have lost this logical way of thinking and are being more prone towards hating at the slightest excuses.
And as for government employees being corrupt, well Indians finally need to be intolerant towards such behavior. If the law enforcement does not take the first step in this case then soon people will take up arms themselves. And that will not look good for this country.
