Jamie Lee is currently not in a good relationship with Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg. This is because she is taking her feud with him to the court of public opinion. All this is due to Mark’s inability to take down an AI-powered commercial in one of Meta’s platforms that she claims used her likeness without permission. Read this article to know more about the ongoing trouble between Jamie Lee Curtis and Mark Zuckerberg and how things have developed so far.
Curtis’s Attempt to Reach Zuckerberg
In a May 12th social media post, Curtis called out Zuckerberg for being unable to take down an AI-powered commercial in one of the Meta platforms that used her likeness without permission. She said the following: ‘ Hi. We have never met, ‘ She wrote this alongside a screenshot of her unsuccessful attempt to reach the Meta founder. ‘My name is Jamie Lee Curtis and I have gone through every proper channel to ask you and your team to take down this fake AI commercial for something that I don’t authorize, agree to or endorse.’ She wrote.
Her Words to the Meta Founder
She also said to Zuckerberg, ‘I tried to DM you and slide in, but you don’t follow me so I had to take to the public intraverse to try to reach you.’ She continued ‘ If I have a brand besides being an actor, author, and advocate, it is that I am known for telling the truth and saying it like it is and for having integrity. ‘She wrote this revealing the commercial misused photos from an interview she did with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle after the wildfires that damaged the Los Angeles area earlier this year.
She said ‘This misuse of my images diminishes my opportunities to speak the truth. I was told that If I asked you directly, maybe you will encourage your team to police it and remove it. I long ago deleted Twitter, so this is the only way I can think of reaching you.’ After following up to her public request, she commented just two hours after the post went live that the video had been taken down.
She Thanked Those Who Helped
After that, she wrote “ IT WORKED! YAY INTERNET!” “SHAME HAS ITS VALUE! THANKS TO ALL WHO CHIMED IN AND HELPED RECTIFY!” Curtis’s outcry comes as a result of various celebrities speaking out against the unauthorised use of their likeness AI-generated photos or videos. This technology is trained on real-life content but can also reproduce an altered form based on the user’s request.
Concerns of Sir David Attenborough, Tom Hanks and Scarlett Johansson
Recently Sir David Attenborough also said that he was disturbed by the use of an AI-generated use of his voice. Last year, Tom Hanks also warned fans that a company was using an AI version of him for promotion of their dental plan. During May of last year, Scarlett Johansson too voiced her concerns while taking on the AI giant Sam Altman and his company AI, she alleges that the Chat GPT product copied her voice without permission.
Wrapping Up
From Jamie Lee to Scarlett Johansson, many celebs have been voicing their disapproval over the illegal promotion or use of their voices by AI companies. It remains to be seen what social media giants like Meta will do to combat these problems due to AI today. Only the future can tell if AI turns out to be a very problematic thing or if it will used in a good way that troubles no other person.
