The Russia-Ukraine war has been going on for more than two years. The conflict’s seeds were planted back in 2014 when Russia tried to annex Crimea which is Ukraine’s territory. However, it got worse in 2022 when Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to take over the entire country.
Former US President, Mr. Joe Biden wanted to help Ukraine by sending forces and relief supplies for commoners. However, Ukraine did not receive enough assistance in reality since the US government did not want to fight Russia. Now, we are yet to see what Donald Trump is yet to do regarding this lingering problem.
What Is Donald Trump’s Approach Towards the War?
The Russia-Ukraine war and US involvement in it have always been controversial. During Joe Biden’s tenure, Americans accused him of spending taxpayer’s money on helping Ukraine instead of the US. Now, Donald Trump is saying that his approach towards helping to end the war will be very strict.
Donald Trump said that he is not a very good sympathizer of Ukraine unlike Joe Biden. However, he would still offer reliefs to the country if needed. Donald Trump has said that his plans to end the war involve sanctions on Russia.
This can include increased tariffs on Russian imports to the USA. Trump would also like to charge more taxes from any Russian organization that is operating in the US as well. In fact, he would force Russian companies to quit doing business here if Russia does not end the war.
The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, however, seems quite unfazed by such threats. He says that he expected such a reaction from the USA. In fact, he is not surprised since the American President plans to charge 100% tariff rates on anything that comes from the BRICS nations. Since Russia is a major part of the BRICS group, the Russian President does not seem to be threatened by Trump’s statements.
Donald Trump however, is also firm in his stand. He says that he wants to avoid a war with Russia at all costs. But he also said that he will not mind fighting this country alongside Ukraine if the Russian government does not agree to his demands.
The Russian government, however, says that they will negotiate with Donald Trump if he agrees to their conditions instead. It is clear that Russia is dissatisfied with Donald Trump’s decision to charge 100% tariffs on their businesses. So they would like to end the war if Donald Trump proposes conditions that are profitable for this country.
What Does Donald Trump’s Approach Mean Regarding The Russia-Ukraine War?
Donald Trump has not yet taken any step to interfere in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. However, his approach is actually quite problematic and unsustainable. This is because Trump hopes to scare Russia into stopping the war by introducing penalties like ridiculous taxes. But Russia is not a weaker nation like Colombia. In fact, its military power and arsenal is something that is worth fearing.
The US’s relations with Russia have always been somewhat problematic. However, Donald Trump’s aggressive stance will make it worse in the future. This is because the Russian President does not seem to fear the USA.
In fact, he might be prepared to fight this country as well if needed. This will only make the Russia-Ukraine war worse. The war might go worse and also involve nuclear weapons as well.
Final Thought
It will be better if Donald Trump first knows who or what he is dealing with before making decisions. This is because Mr. Trump is clearly underestimating Russia and thinks that increasing taxes will solve everything. But Russia might not yield so easily.
Hence, it will be better if Mr. Trump has a more flexible approach and listens to the Russian President’s demands. He should consider proposing something that not only benefits both countries but also motivates Russia to stop fighting.
